Description

The name mahimahi means “very strong” in Hawaiian, a fitting tribute to one of Hawaii’s most popular and striking fish. The mahimahi (Coryphaena hippurus) is a breathtaking sight, flashing through the water just beneath the surface at incredible speeds. Known for its vibrant colors and acrobatic leaps, this pelagic fish thrives in warm seas around the world.

This mahimahi was caught by my neighbor from a kayak off the shores of Maui, and its form was preserved through the traditional Japanese art of gyotaku.

This limited edition print is a faithful reproduction of my original gyotaku, “Mahimahi (Coryphaena hippurus)”, created with meticulous accuracy. Printed on museum-quality archival paper using pigment-based inks, each piece ensures lasting vibrancy for years to come.

The deckled edges of the paper add a beautiful handmade touch and can be framed behind a mat or “floated” to showcase the natural edge.

Each print is signed, numbered, and stamped with my red chop.
