Description
The Dungeness Crab gets its common name from the town of Old Town Dungeness, Washington, where the first commercial harvesting of the crab was done. They can be found from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska to south of San Francisco. This rubbing was done while I was recently visiting the Pacific Northwest. It’s the one and only gyotaku that I made during my trip there. I hope to return again soon to print many other amazing marine life in the Pacific Northwest.
This is an original, one-of-a-kind, hand-rubbed impression taken from a dungeness crab. Printed using the indirect method of gyotaku, with non-toxic, soy-based ink and rubbed onto 100% silk. The silk has been permanently dry-mounted to a rice paper backing to give it body. Signed in pencil and stamped with my red chop in the lower right corner. Comes with a signed certifciate of authenticity.
All of the fish I use are caught using sustainable fishing practices from local recreational fishermen. Every month, a portion of the proceeds from my sales are donated to community based, non-profit organizations that are dedicated to marine conservation.
