Description

At a time when life in the oceans is threatened, cephalopods seem able to buck the trend. They grow quickly and typically living for only one or two years. They produce lots of eggs, and their eggs have relatively low mortality rates. They’ve adapted rapidly to changes in the environment which have become even more pronounced in recent decades

Provided to me by Matt, a local free diver and fisherman, this octopus weighed in at five pounds which is large for Hawaiian octopus and making it the largest octopus I’ve ever printed. I was able to get a couple of nice prints on a variety of papers before I washed the ink off of it and returned it to Matt to be enjoyed in a meal. I am so happy with how it turned out.

Original, one-of-a-kind gyotaku of a Hawaiian Octopus. Printed in the direct method of gyotaku onto mulberry paper using an archival, water soluble, printmaking ink. It is PH neutral (acid free). The paper measures 36 x 24 inches and has a soft deckle edge.

Signed in pencil and stamped with my red seal in the lower right corner. It will arrive with a certificate of authenticity.

Due to its size, it will be carefully rolled into a stiff mailing tube for safe transit.
