One evening while preparing dinner, I paused to admire a single, beautifully cooked shrimp resting on the tines of my fork—an ordinary moment, suddenly full of grace. I felt inspired to capture it the way I do with fish: using gyotaku.
“Cocktail Hour” was born from that moment of playfulness. It’s a nod to both the fleeting beauty of food and the artistry found in everyday life. While gyotaku is traditionally used to document fish, here the subject is a ready-to-eat shrimp—presented with humor, reverence, and a wink toward indulgence.
Printed with care onto a beautiful unbleached washi paper. It measures 8 x 10 inches and is titled and signed in pencil and then stamped with my red seal. I hope it brings a smile, a memory, or a little spark of joy to your space.
