Description

Seahorses are truly unique, due to their unusual shape. Unlike most other fish, they are monogamous and mate for life. Rarer still, they are among the only animal species on Earth in which the male bears the unborn young.

Seahorses are rarely seen in the wild however captive breeding has become more popular. This original gyotaku imprint was created using a preserved captive-bred seahorse.

Printed in the direct method of gyotaku onto mulberry paper using an archival, printmaking ink. It is PH neutral (acid free). The paper measures 10 inches x 8 inches and has a soft deckle edge. Signed in pencil and stamped with my red chop in the lower right corner. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this artwork will be donated to the Seahorse Hawaii Foundation, who are trying to save them and are the only breeding program in the world for seahorses and sea dragons. For more information visit seahorsehawaii.org.
